Pre-Primary
A national survey of kindergarten teachers noted three primary essentials for school readiness:
- healthy, rested , and well nourished
- able to communicate needs, wants and thoughts verbally
- enthusiastic and curious in approaching new activities
Our pre-kindergarten program encourages children to learn through play and learning centers which are an integral part of the classroom. Our program reflects an understanding of how children learn. We emphasize active
learning, consistent daily routines, and the use of positive behavioral management and assessment strategies. This program incorporates bilateral coordination activities, foster mid-line crossing and motor planning activities.
ASSESSMENT:
Our program utilizes a standardized pre-kindergarten assessment that identifies each student’s level of functioning and includes the following areas:
- Gross and Fine Motor Skills
- Following Directions
- Matching Visual memory
- Academics
- Delayed Gratification
This provides the basics for planning for the individual child and an individual education plan is written to address the areas of concern.
COMPONENTS:
Our program offers the following curriculum and activities appropriate preschool experiences that emphasize growth and experiences in:
- language
- math concepts

- music therapy
- physical development through physical education
- social and emotional competence
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING READINESS:
We use the Wilson Foundation Program and hands on activities which:
- Increase phonological awareness
- Increase language skills
- Teach and reinforce Letter Recognition
- Develop Upper and Lower Letter Formation
- Introduce Consonants and Vowels
- Teach One Syllable Words
MATH:
We use Math Their Way Program which is an activity centered child friendly math program. It is designed to help children to develop an understanding of and insight into the patterns of mathematics. The program teaches mathematical concepts through a hands on approach. The students will work on:
- Knowledge of simple math concepts
- Ability to count up to 10
- Basic understanding of shapes
SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM:
Our social skills program is centers around learning and practicing social skills:
- Feelings of both self and others are recognized
- Feelings will be identified and expressed appropriately
- Feelings of others will be understood and accepted
- An increasing capacity for self-control will be evident
- Social and interpersonal skills are emerging
- Ability to work or play cooperatively with others will be evident
- Ability to form appropriate relationships with children and adults will be demonstrated
- Emerging conflict resolution skills will be evident
- Increasing capacity to follow rules and routines will be evident
ORAL LANGUAGE:
Our oral language program will work to develop
- Communication with others
- Listening skills
- Ability to follow simple directions
- Expressing needs and wants
- Use of language to interact socially with others
- Ability to describe people, places, things and events
- Ability to ask and answer age- appropriate questions
- Early literacy skills
- Association between spoken and written words
- Understanding of beginning alphabetic knowledge

- Writing letters to represent word and syllables
- Knowledge of basic book and story components
SOCIAL STUDIES & SCIENCE:
Our Social Studies and Science programs are based on hands on activities and stories which introduce new and reinforce old concepts.
